We are thrilled to introduce the talented interns at Kids’ Minds Matter. They each bring their own passion, dedication, and experiences to helping children and families in our community. Through their internship with the Child Advocacy team at Golisano Children’s Hospital, these Florida Gulf Coast University students will gain hands-on experience while learning about the meaningful impact of comprehensive mental and behavioral care and support on young lives.
Meet Elena
Elena’s journey to social work is driven by her commitment to helping children who are at risk or have experienced trauma.
“I chose social work to directly facilitate positive change for children.”
With a focus on trauma-informed care, Elena is eager to deepen her knowledge of direct patient assistance and the valuable partnerships that help connect children and families to the resources they need.
Meet Kayla
Kayla, a Southwest Florida native, has long admired the care at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Her interest in social work developed after shadowing a medical social worker, confirming her calling to help others.
“I would like to create new initiatives that further both the social work profession and the well-being of clients.”
Kayla plans to pursue a master’s in social work and is interested in a career working with older adults in Veteran Affairs clinics or assisted living facilities.
Meet Giovanna (Gigi)
For Gigi, social work is deeply personal, motivated by her own experiences and the support she received from social workers as a child.
“Their guidance inspired me to advocate for children and pursue a career where I can counsel children going through a difficult situation.”
The wraparound approach at Golisano Children’s Hospital, which focuses on the whole family’s needs, resonates with Gigi’s goal to provide compassionate and effective care to kids. In the future, Gigi plans to earn a master’s in clinical social work.
We are grateful to have these exceptional interns on our team, learning, contributing, and making a real difference for kids in Southwest Florida. We look forward to seeing all they accomplish during their time with us and beyond.
